When you don’t know a birth or death date

Put down whatever you do know. If you know a year but no month or day, just put the year in the form. If you don’t know even the exact year, you can approximate by using the word “about,” as in, “About 1923”.

The acceptable formats for dates are:

• about 1924
• March 3, 1924
• March 1924
